Pop princess and X Factor winner Alexandra Burke is continuing to follow in the footsteps of Leona Lewis and has signed a £3.5 million record deal with Epic Records.
The X Factor winner was snapped up by the same company which now manages Leona Lewis in the states, Epic – a division of Sony BMG for a five album record deal.
The 20 year old star said: “I would love to crack the US. After seeing Coldplay take away the awards at the Grammys I was so inspired.”
The US label signed the London singer, who was mentored by Cheryl Cole in her debut year at The X Factor, following her success with the Christmas single Hallelujah. Her American launch is being managed by the same team behind mega-stars like Rihanna & Beyonce Knowles.
Alexandra Burke will now meet with music mogul and on-going mentor Simon Cowell to start planning her route to the same success Leona Lewis has seen since winning The X Factor in 2006. An insider told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “Epic think Alexandra can follow in Leona’s footsteps. The US market loves women with big voices – and Alexandra certainly has that. If she comes close to Leona’s success it will be a job well done.”
Alexandra’s debut album is due for release in November in the UK and early next year in America, she is currently focusing on next weeks BRIT Awards and her nomination for Best British Single. She said: “I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the BRITs. I feel so honoured to be nominated so early on. Everything is happening so fast.”
