Joe McElderry made an extra special tribute last night in his first public gig since winning the show on Sunday.
The young star closed Millies by performing The Climb, his new single which is currently trailing behind the Rage Against The Machine track in their continued campaign to prevent Joe from getting a Christmas number one.
Joe paid tribute to Flight Lieutenant John Walmsley, who won Best Airman Award after the ceremony. Joe told the crowd: “It was amazing to hear what he did. You look at the reconstruction films and you are lost in admiration for all the award winners. To think they are on the frontline doing that day in day out is incredible. They must have so much courage and I am so proud there are people from our country doing things like that.“
He continued: “I think you forget how much danger they put their lives in. They are literally putting their lives at risk 24 hours a day.“
Other guests at the bash were Foreign Secretary David Miliband, Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth and Shadow Defence Secretary Liam Fox. Corrie stars Bill Roache, Jennie McAlpine also attended, as did Vernon Kay, Kate Garraway and Kate Silverton.
See Joe McElderry perform at Millies – dubbed ‘Night of Heroes’ on December 21st on ITV1.
