Breaking: Cheryl Cole Seriously Ill In Hospital After Catching Killer Disease ‘Malaria’

Cheryl Cole is reportedly seriously ill in hospital last night after catching Malaria – a disease which can kills 3 million people a year.

Doctors believe Cheryl was bitten by a mosquito in Tanzania, where she spent six days with Derek Hough on holiday last month. The dancer is said to be distraught after being told she caught the deadly disease on their romantic break which HE arranged for them.

A source close to Derek said: “He’s mortified by what’s happened and is utterly devastated at what she’s going through – not least because it happened on a trip he’d planned.”

27-year-old Cheryl was diagnosed with Malaria when she went for urgent tests after collapsing at a photoshoot on Saturday afternoon. Friends of Cheryl say she had been feeling unwell for several days, with symptoms that included nausea and a very high temperature.

“She just got worse and worse after Saturday and was taken in by her worried management team as it became clear she wasn’t getting any better. She really is quite poorly but at least the results came back quickly so the doctors can focus on giving her the right treatment.“

“She had been taking malaria tablets regularly while on holiday and continued to take them even after she returned, but she still tested positive for it.”

Cheryl has been ordered to spend “at least” three nights in hospital while she’s treated for the disease. It’s almost certain that she’ll miss auditions for The X Factor this week in Manchester. People from Cheryl’s team are frantically re-organising a host of planned appearances over the next few days.

Talkback Thames – the company that produces The X Factor – were locked in meetings yesterday to discuss her absence, with Simon Cowell calling into the hospital to see how she was. It goes without saying, Cowell ordered Cole to take as much time off as she needed to get better. He told her: “I don’t want to see you back until you are well enough. Just rest and concentrate on getting better.“

Another source, this time from The X Factor said: “The situation will be reviewed on a day by day basis and keep our fingers crossed, but obviously Cheryl’s health comes first. All this stuff about Cheryl burning the candle at both ends and working too hard is just absolute nonsense. Cheryl always operates at a million miles an hour, in fact she thrives on it. It’s the way she’s always been and things haven’t changed. But this time she found herself up against something that she couldn’t beat.“

“It’s such a shame as she had such a lovely holiday with Derek and has such lovely memories of it. He is worried sick about her. He’s sticking close by her bedside and trying to keep her cheerful. He’s probably the best tonic she’s got right now.”

Although there is no official word from Cheryl’s camp yet, three separate sources, one with Derek, one from The X Factor, and a friend of Cheryl’s, has confirmed with several tabloids that these reports are absolutely genuine. More news as we get it.
