Yesterday Cheryl Cole made a shock confession that she may not return for another series of The X Factor next year. She said the decision will not be based on money, but instead on whether she wants to concentrate on her solo career in America, or her television career.
But in a press conference, Simon Cowell admitted that he may not be able to afford Cheryl on next years show. The music mogul joked that, with Cheryl’s solo career really taking off, she may be too famous to return to the programs judging panel in 2010.
Simon said: “I like the fact that the people we work with are successful, just not too successful!“
But Cheryl stepped in, insisting she loves working as a mentor on The X Factor, and has no plans to leave right now, adding “it’s not about the money.” Insiders at the ITV talent show are saying that if Cheryl doesn’t return, a likely replacement will be Davina McCall.
Meanwhile, it’s still looking like a sure bet that Cheryl will win The X Factor with Joe McElderry this weekend. Asked how he felt about the final tomorrow, Joe said: “I just want to get it out the way – I’m not nervous, but if you don’t put it all into your performance in the week then it can all go pear shaped.“
When you consider what the winners single will be, Miley Cyrus‘ power-ballad, The Climb, it is definitely more suited to Joe’s voice than Stacey or Olly’s. And the song hasn’t proved popular with the public either.
An independent poll of 5,000 people revealed that a whopping 66% of them thought the ballad was a poor choice of song for the winner.
Who thinks the song is a poor choice? I personally love the track, and think it could prove a huge hit, but what do you think? And would Davina make a good replacement for Cheryl Cole?
