Music mogul Simon Cowell is reportedly set to give pregnant Dannii Minogue a nasty shock, by slashing her pay by £300,000 for The X Factor this year, while he hands rival judge Cheryl Cole a £700,000 rise.
If these figures are true, it would mean that Cheryl will earn £1.7 million for the next series while Dannii will take home a measly £700,000.
But the News of the World reveals today that Cowell wanted to sack Dannii from the show because of her popularity and her pregnancy. Simon’s brother Tony told the tabloid: “He’s always the first person who wants to change it up. That’s part of his genius. He doesn’t let a show go stale. I think he did want to change the panel this year. But I think he might have mis-read the appeal and popularity of Dannii.“
An X Factor insider said Cowell felt pressured into renewing Dannii’s contract. “Simon simply didn’t realise how popular Dannii had become with viewers since last year. Even when she became pregnant, he wanted to find a way to ease her into a lesser role on the show. But Dannii will only come back if she’s on the judging panel, and Simon knew it would be impossible to remove a pregnant woman. There would have been a huge backlash.“
Despite her pregnancy, Dannii will play a big part in the show, and will only miss the audition and bootcamp stages of the show. But she will return to judge the finalists on the live shows. That means she’ll be working for around four months, at a rate of £175,000 per month.
Cheryl Cole will be working the full six months, taking home an astonishing £283,333 a month, while Louis is in line to get a total of £1.6 million for his part in the show. Simon Cowell takes home the biggest slice of the pie, £1 million per month, totalling £6 million.
All judges contracts are now being finalised, and its a dead cert the judging panel will not change this year. Cheryl is in the last stages of negotiations, an ITV source revealed. “Signing Cheryl is our absolute priority. She’s a huge part of the show and she doesn’t need to do it now her solo singing career is so successful. She deserved to be rewarded and we needed to make sure she definitely re-signed. If we lost viewers it would cost us a lot of money,” said the source.
Despite the rumours of Dannii’s paycut, she confirmed on Twitter earlier this week that the rumours her pay were being slashed were false, so who knows what to believe right now.
