Girls Aloud singer turned solo artist, Cheryl Cole has revealed that she offered to leave Girls Aloud back in 2003 when she was famously convicted of assault.
In a high-profile court case, Cheryl was charged with racially-aggravated assault after an incident in a nightclub toilet in 2003. As the case went through the courts, Cole was eventually convicted of assault, and cleared of all allegations that the assault was racially motivated.
In Girls Aloud’s new autobiography, Dreams That Glitter, Cheryl admits she offered to leave the band, so as not to bring her bandmates down with her.
She explains that the incident occurred when she retaliated after being accused of stealing lollipops. The sexy X Factor judge also claimed that she didn’t know about the allegation of a racial element until a week later. While preparing her court case, she offered to leave Girls Aloud because she didn’t want the other four members affected by HER mistake.
Cheryl Cole admits that despite her now-criminal record, the experience has made her stronger.
I also want to point something out here, because ‘some’ fans still believe the attack was racially motivated. Please remember that Cheryl Cole is married to Ashley Cole, who is black (not sure exactly where he is from), but if she was at all a racist, I’m sure she would not of married the guy.

As far as I am aware Ashley Cole is British – full stop. He, as I understand, is also mixed race meaning that he has a black father and a white mother. But I'm not sure that all this is relevant anyway! At the end of the day Cheryl is a beautiful kind hearted girl and seems to love EVERYONE she comes across. In fact she's probably one of the nicest people around.
