Girls Aloud turn solo artist Cheryl Cole may be about to land a massive £10m payday in a deal which will see her front an American version of The X Factor.
Its long been rumoured that Cheryl could front a US version of the hit UK talent show, but those rumours could prove true if a recent article in the Hollywood Reporter are to be believed.
The well-respected magazine claims the Fox Network are desperate to make their version of The X Factor in America, and are keen to get Cheryl Cole, Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell on board.
And the money the three judges could earn is simply staggering. If Simon was to leave American Idol for The X Factor US (unlikely), he could net himself £30 million a year, while Cheryl Cole would earn an estimated £10 million a year just for sitting on the judging panel.
Those numbers are staggering when you compare them to Cheryl’s wages for the UK X Factor, which is £1.2 million per series. Simon Cowell earns £15 million per series in the UK. As i mentioned above, its unlikely Simon will leave American Idol for The X Factor US, as he has recently signed a new contact with Idol which pays him £45 million per series.
It has long been reported that Cheryl Cole’s chances of taking The X Factor to America have been scuppered after American audiences wouldn’t understand her strong Geordie accent.
But a source recently told a UK national tabloid: “That story simply wasn’t true. Cheryl wowed everyone she met in America, and TV executives are convinced she can be a big hit in the States.“
So should Cheryl Cole head stateside, or remain firmly on British soil?
