As one of the biggest celebrities in the world, and a footballers wife, Cheryl Cole is used to the good life. But as she prepares to fly to Africa today, the Girls Aloud beauty was spotted enjoying her last few hours of her A-list lifestyle.
Cheryl Cole was dressed casually in jeans and a sweater, which she glammed up with a pair of huge heels, the 25-year-old indulged in a spot of retail therapy in Knightsbridge last night.
Cheryl was seen with an assistant in tow to carry her purchases, she looked every inch the celebrity as she wore her obligatory RayBan sunglasses in department store Harrods. In contrast to her heels, Cheryl will be spending the next 10 days in flat, sturdy trekking shoes as she hikes through the elements and ‘roughs it’ in a tent. And instead of her designer handbag, the X Factor judge will be carrying a backpack with essential supplies like water, snacks and sunblock.
‘I’d miss tea a lot, but I’ve checked and we’ll still get that on the mountain.‘ Cheryl and her band mate Kimberley Walsh will be joining seven fellow celebrities as they spend 10 days climbing the highest peak in Africa. The famous climbing team includes Take That star Gary Barlow, GMTV host Ben Shepard, Denise Van Outen, DJ Chris Moyles, presenter Fearne Cotton, pop star Alesha Dixon and Boyzone singer Ronan Keating.
So far the stars have raised over £388,000, over a third of their £1million target. Over their 10 day expedition, they will trek through a diverse environment of desert, tropical rainforest, alpine meadows and Arctic conditions. Mount Kilimanjaro in northern Tanzania is the highest free-standing mountain in the world at 19,340ft (5,895m) above sea level.
Kimberley admitted living in a tent may be a struggle for her and Cheryl: ‘We don’t do camping at all. That’s a big personal challenge for us to be honest. It’s not like Cheryl and I are festival girls, camping is really not our thing – but we’ll manage I’m sure.‘
Over the last few weeks, Cheryl has been bulking up in preparation for her trip with a diet devised by one of her Chelsea star husband Ashley’s trainers. She has been eating fried breakfast, chips, hamburgers, cake, doughnuts and chocolate bars every day in a bid to increase her energy levels.
Speaking of her training recently, she said: ‘I don’t know about anybody else but I’ve got blisters on every toe of both feet. We are used to getting in good shape when we are on tour. The dancing really keeps us fit but this is totally different. I sent my friend a text message the other night after a 12-mile walk on the treadmill. When I went to bed I honestly thought I wouldn’t be able to get up in the morning.‘
