The Girls Aloud singer’s, “Fight For This Love” which was released in 2009, has sold over a million copies ever since, while Canada born, Carly Rae Jepsen’s catchy single, “Call Me Maybe” has also registered the milestone.
Cheryl and Carly joins in the ranks of Gotye’s song, “Somebody That I Used To Know” featuring Kimbra, first reached the one million mark in the UK this year.
According to the Official Singles Chart Company, in its 60 years of founding, only 125 artists managed to sell over a million copies of their respective singles. Nowadays, with most people downloading music online, sales figures have also witnessed a huge boost.
Martin Talbot, Managing Director, The Official Singles Chart Company, has congratulated both Cheryl and Carly for their success.
He told, “Many congratulations are due to Carly Rae Jepsen and Cheryl Cole, who have joined Gotye to make it three million sellers this year. The fact that there has still only been 125 million sellers over the last 60 years indicates just quite how impressive a landmark it is to reach.”
