Cheryl Cole had three very good reason to be very happy on The X Factor this evening. One, none of her acts were voted out, two, she looked very damn sexy in that dress she was wearing, and three, just before she went on air, it was confirmed she had stolen the number one spot from her X Factor protegee Alexandra Burke, as previously predicted.
Alexandra Burke was smiling last week after she claimed the fastest selling single of the year title, after her new single Bad Boys sold more than 185,000 copies in its first week, but that smile was wiped off her face 7 days later, as Cheryl Cole took the title, with an astonishing 290,000 sales in one week with her debut solo single, Fight For This Love.
Cheryl Cole – Fight For This Love also claimed the biggest first-week sales since Alexandra’s debut single, Hallelujah after she won the last series of The X Factor over Christmas 2008.
Cheryl commented on her success: “I’m just getting over the fact I have recorded my solo record and now it’s number one. I can’t take this all in. It’s hard for me to put into words how I feel. I have this permanent smile on my face.“
An official spokesman from the Radio One Charts Show commented: “Many congratulations to Cheryl Cole on her fantastic achievement. Other than X Factor winners, very few singles get anywhere near 300,000 sales in their first week. In doing just that this week, Cheryl has show just what a favourite she is with the British music-buying public.“
Cheryl Cole’s debut solo album, 3 Words is due to be released this week, on October 26th 2009.
