The song is running up against Lily Allenās āThe Fearā and James Morrisonās āBroken Stringsā. āThe Promiseā was written by Brian Higgins, Miranda Cooper, Kieran Jones, Jason Resch, Carla-Marie Williams, Tim Powell and Nick Coler (published by Warner/Chappell Music).
āThe Promiseā is Girls Aloudās fourth number one single in the UK Singles Chart and won āBest British Singleā at the BRIT Awards 2009. It was the first single to be taken from the groupās fifth studio album Out of Control.
Brian Higgins said that Xenomania knew that āThe Promiseā was āthe piece of music Girls Aloud needed to announce them as a supergroup in this countryā: āāThe Promiseā was the sound of a big group, a group about to be huge. They needed the theme tune to the biggest girl group on the planetā.
The Ivor Novello Awards recognise the best British songwriting and composing. The ceremony will take place on Thursday 20th May 2010 at the Grosvenor House, London.
