After securing his place in The X Factor Final last night and completing a press conference after the show, Joe McElderry headed straight for Heathrow Airport to jet back to his home town of Tyneside early this morning.
The singing sensation proved the bookies predictions were correct as he, Stacey Soloman and Olly Murs sailed through to the final after Danyl Johnson Got The Boot. Joe’s arrival on a British Airways flight this morning caused a stir among airport workers who have been following his progress throughout the competition.
Dave Laws, cheif executive of Newcastle Airport said: “Like most of the workplaces in the North East, Joe’s performances on the X Factor over the weekend is the main topic of conversation here on a Monday morning. We are all rooting for Joe at the airport and will be keeping our fingers crossed for him in the final. He certainly embodied the pride and passion of the North East with his performance at the weekend. ”
Coral Bookmakers now has the teenager as 1-3 favourite to win the series after last nights result. David Stevens, Coral spokesman said: “Joe has been hot favourite to win for several weeks now, and his latest performances showed why. It would be the biggest shock since Will Young beat Gareth Gates in Pop Idol if he didn’t win next week’s final.”
And Joe McElderry was lavished with praise by The X Factor judges this weekend for his rendition of Jackson’s She’s Out of My Life and Journey’s Open Arms. The 18-year-old star will now take on Olly and Stacey in the final, where he hopes to reign supreme and take this years crown, and that all important £1 million recording contract.
