Lady GaGa Climbs the Chart to Steal Joe McElderry’s Number 1

Well, it was an uphill battle for Joe McElderry after winning The X Factor 2009. Traditionally, The X Factor Winner always gets the Christmas number one spot after winning the show, but after a well-publicised Internet campaign to get Rage Against The Machine into the number one spot succeeded, Joe was left downhearted.

But it wasn’t all bad for Joe, as his single, The Climb managed to take the New Year Number One spot instead, where it shifted 69,792 copies in its second week. But one week later, and Joe McElderry is knocked off the number one by Lady GaGa with her single, Bad Romance, which she performed on The X Factor a few weeks ago.

Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance has been in the top 10 for the last 10 weeks, and finally managed to hit number one on Sunday evenings Radio 1 Chart Show. Joe McElderry – The Climb dropped back to number two, while the other big winner this week is Ke$ha with her single Tik Tok which went in at number four.

I’m not sure when we’ll hear another single from Joe McElderry. As with last years winner, Alexandra Burke, they don’t tend to release another single for around 11 months, so if that trend continues, we should hear Joe’s second single sometime in October 2010.
