Songs from the movies was the theme of The X Factor in the fifth week of the live shows, and Lloyd Daniels chose to sing Stand by Me by Ben E. King – which was part of the movie by the same name in 1986.
Lloyd Daniels stepped up to the stage with no sign of the throat difficulties that hindered his survival song when he appeared in the final two last week. The Welsh heartthrob came across with renewed confidence as he sang his way through Stand By Me, demonstrating a certain flare for charming the ladies as he serenaded his beaming mentor, Cheryl Cole, (nice one Lloyd!!).
But unfortunately for the 16-year-old wannabe, it seems most of the panel hadn’t succumbed to his powers, with both Louis and Simon claiming he was “out of his depth” and Dannii describing it only as “nice“.
To be fair, the three comments from the judges were absolutely correct. Lloyd Daniels is well out of his depth now, and it looks as though he is set for the boot on tomorrow nights show.
Lloyd Daniels – Stand By Me on The X Factor Week 5
Louis Walsh: “Lloyd the good news is its much better than it was last week, and three weeks ago you were the cute kid in the competition. I think your out of your depth because there are four guys in the competition better than you.“
Dannii Minogue: “Lloyd, you are a very cute guy with a good voice, I thought vocally that was well suited to you because there is a certain range you can sing in and you cant go above that. It was a nice performance.“
Simon Cowell: “Yeah nice like having tea with your mum. Look, by now I think you are out of your depth to be honest with you, you’re competing against some big big singers and it kind of feels to me like your giving up a little bit. The second part of the song where it went young was more your age group, it worked OK, but your voice wasn’t big enough for the song. That’s the problem.“
Cheryl Cole: “I think its really unfair because obviously he was in the bottom two last week, he had a tough time of it so he is down on his confidence, that’s normal, he’s had a knock but I thought it was your most comfortable vocal you have done so far. You did make it young, it was funky, it was cool and if id have chosen a younger movie id have made you look cheesy and I don’t want to make you cheesy because your cooler than that.“
