Does Simon Cowell know something we don’t? Judging by this latest piece of news, Simon is expecting Cheryl Cole’s act, Joe McElderry to win The X Factor this year.
Music mogul Simon has chosen a song which has already been performed by Joe – Journey’s 1981 power balled Don’t Stop Believing. Joe belted out the classic hit in Rock Week, which made the song return to the Top 20 Chart for the first time since the 1980′s.
Simon’s second choice is a much newer song, and one which I would prefer, The Climb, by Miley Cyrus. Sources say it would be a perfect song for fellow front-runner Stacey Soloman.
The news that Joe McElderry and Stacey Soloman are in pole position will stun rivals Olly Murs an Danyl Johnson. An insider at the show said: “Danyl and Olly think they can win. They will be shocked to learn the winner’s song is one Joe has already performed.”
But today’s news isn’t set in stone just yet. There are still “legal issues” which need to be ironed out with the track, according to insiders. Joe has become a favourite with the judges and crew because of his determination and good grace. Last Sunday he was the first act to get a full standing ovation from the judges, and he consistently leads the public vote.
A source said: “It is getting to the crucial stages now and Simon and producers are very confident that Joe could be the winner. He made a great fist of Don’t Stop Believin’ and that has helped. It’s always a difficult call choosing the song, especially as there are some very different talents in the final line-up.“
